Chapter Announcements
Ypsilanti Public Schools have announced that Dr. James Hawkins has been permanently appointed as the School District's Superintendent. For the past year Dr. Hawkins has been operating as the Superintendent with a "Interim" status. The school district felt that it was the distict's best chance of continuing to move forward rested with Dr. Hawkins. Let us all celebrate Brother Hawkins' recognition. He is truly living up to one of our grand fraternity's objective... "Achievement in all Endeavors".
Eastern Michigan University awarded Dr. James Hawkins with their 2005 MLK Jr. Humanitarian Award. Dr. Hawkins is the former superintendant of schools in Ypsilanti and Gary Indiana. Since his return to Ypsilanti, he has become involved in the community as the social action chairman of the Ypsilanti East Middle School mentoring program for African American males. The objectives of the program, which is sponsored by Sigma Pi Phi National Fraternity, are to provide social/cultural, athletic/recreational, academic and spiritual experiences for middle school students who would not otherwise have these opportunities. Let us all celebrate Brother Hawkins' recognition. He is truly living up to one of our grand fraternity's objective... "Service to the Community".
University Bank announced that Nicholas Fortson, the Chief Financial Officer of University Bank and University Bancorp, Inc. has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Bank, effective immediately. Mr. Fortson has served as the bank’s chief financial officer for the past four years. Mr. Fortson said, “I am thrilled at the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities in my career and look forward to building on the record of the past few years.” Prior to joining University Bank, Mr. Fortson had served as President of New South Africa Pizza Company, the Domino’s Pizza franchisee in South Africa, CFO of Detroit-based Graimark Realty Advisors, and Comptroller of Detroit-based First Independence Bank. Let us all celebrate Brother Fortson's accomplishment and recognize that he is visible proof of what our grand fraternity is founded on, "ACHIEVEMENT".
The Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti-Inkster Alumni Chapter & The City of Ypsilanti Parks and Recreation Department is proud to announce a new 5 week summer computer literacy program. The Kappa Komputer Kamp will be hosted at the Parkridge Community Center Saturdays July 19-August 16, 2003.

The Kalamazoo Alumni Chapter will host this year's C. Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference (CRWLC) on September 26-27, 2003.
Lodging is available at the Hampton Inn & Suites, located at 5059 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo (269.372.1010).
There are thirty rooms reserved for the conference, at a group rate of $80.00. Ask for Jennifer Lasiewicz, and mention Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, when making your reservation.
All meetings, including Friday's Board Meeting, and Saturday's workshops will be held at the Kalamazoo Valley Community College, located at 6767 West O Avenue, Kalamazoo.

Due to the 4th of July Holiday the montly chapter meeting will be held on July 12, 2003 at the Ypsilanti Marriott. The August meeting will be held on it's regular date of the 1st Saturday of the month, August February 2, 2003. Breaksfast starts at 9:00am, General Meeting will begin at 10:00am.
It is with great pride that Governor-elect Jennifer Granholm has selected one of our own to head the Michigan State Police. Lt. Col. Tadarial Sturdivant of the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti/Inkster Alumni chapter has been appointed to this position. He is the first African American to hold this esteemed position. Let us all celebrate Tad's accomplishment and recognize that he is visible proof of what our grand fraternity is founded on, "ACHIEVEMENT".
